ABOUT US
The Pickens County Board of Disabilities and Special needs was first established in 1972. A group of parents wanted more for their children and sought a place that would provide support and work skills for their truly special children. With two staff members serving five clients, Better Skills, Inc. began as a sheltered workshop with the purpose of highlighting abilities.
Today, the agency currently provides service to over 200 people in Pickens County with intellectual disabilities, autism, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury and conditions related to these four disabilities. The agency staffs 24 hours a day, 15 community training homes with 60 individuals and a supervised living program that is apartment based living with 22 individuals. Our services includes support and assistance for infants, children and adults that reside in neighborhoods across Pickens County.
Day Program Services provides a wide range of opportunities such as; job/employment, transportation, social and recreational activities, micro-business, learning experiences, and much more.
The agency takes pride in assisting our friends in the pursuit of equal opportunities to live, work, enjoy leisure activities, and to achieve the highest level of independence possible.
